Vice President of Revenue

Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Vice President (EVP), Business Development and Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the Vice President of Revenue provides overall strategy, coordination, and implementation of the organization’s business development function. In partnership with the EVP and members of the senior management team, the position is responsible for establishing and meeting Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)’s annual fundraising goals while providing active oversight of its current donor base. The Vice President of Revenue will lead, drive and catalyze innovations to both maintain and transform the organization’s revenue model in order to achieve its aggressive financial targets.

The Vice President of Revenue will be a bold and strategic, yet ‘hands-on’ executor who will lead a best-in-class revenue generation and development program. Priorities include ensuring the proper organizational structure to support a sophisticated and integrated development program. Additionally, the role will regularly report pertinent information feedback and mitigate any potential risks to TMCF’s donor base.

Responsibilities

The Vice President of Revenue is expected to:

    • Provide overall vision and strategic direction for ongoing development activities
    • Develop the strategy and implementation plan to grow revenue
    • Apply directional leadership to ensure fundraising priorities are aligned with program funding goals
    • Provide thought leadership on major funding opportunities and deepening of existing partner relationships
    • Establish and oversee department budget and forecast planning
    • Develop relationships with funders, high net worth individuals, corporate, and foundation representatives—and drive cultivation and solicitation strategies to achieve contributions
    • Collaborate with internal cross-functional line of business leaders on major funding opportunities and capacity capabilities
    • Oversee research funding sources and trends to help position the organization ahead of major funding changes or trends
    • Direct oversight of development staff to include recruitment, hiring, management and evaluation
    • Exercise sound fiscal and administrative management, regularly monitoring and evaluating performance against budget objectives and organizational goals

Required Competencies and Qualifications

  • Highly competitive with energy and passion for TMCF’s mission is essential
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience with a proven track-record in a senior fundraising or corporate sales role generating revenue
  • Self-reliant, results-oriented, influential with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including flexibility and the ability to listen, negotiate and collaborate
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate capacity to present a compelling case; persuade, engage and excite while incorporating creativity and ensuring accuracy; an effective verbal and written communicator who can inspire others
  • Management style that inspires and builds alliances within the organization and emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach, high ethical standards, collegiality and effective teamwork
  • Careful attention to detail, superior organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously
  • Proven results leveraging available resources effectively to meet program objectives
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred); continued professional and leadership development expected

Employee Type:     Full-time Exempt

Compensation:      $115,000 – $125,000 a year

Start Date:              January 2019
