Who Can Participate

VBMA Scholars (Students in grades 6-10 residing in Baltimore, MD or Vicksburg, MS)
VBMA Scholars will:

• Participate in assessments that give us insight into the student’s interest and critical thinking abilities
• Work with a mentor who will guide and advise the scholar with academic and career choices that further contribute to the STEM field

VBMA Teacher Fellows (6-10 grade educators residing in Baltimore, MD or Vicksburg, MS)
VBMA Teacher Fellows will:

• Receive ongoing professional development and participate in a one-week summer enrichment workshop in Houston, TX
• Accompany scholars on field trips and STEM competitions
• Serve as initiative ambassadors and share instructional strategies with teachers within the school district

VBMA Mentors

• Students attending Alcorn State University, Bowie State University, Jackson State University, Morgan State University, or Coppin State University
• Local scientists, Engineers or STEM professionals

VBMA Mentors will:

• Meet with scholars and parents on a regular basis to ensure they are actively engaged in educational material and activities
• Support VBMA staff in designing and delivering learning experiences and lead workshops with scholars
• Assist scholars in preparing for competitions and accompany scholars on field trips and local competitions

Note: VBMA offers incentives to families, teacher fellows, and student mentors by awarding stipends, supplements, and transportation assistance for participants.
