Thurgood Marshall College Fund Thanks Amazon for its Generous $1 Million Gift

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is pleased to announce that Amazon has made a $1 million contribution to our organization and is very appreciative of Amazon’s recognition of the impactful work that TMCF does with its member-schools and their students.

TMCF was among 11 organizations specifically recognized by Amazon for our work in the area of social justice, which, among other things, helps to improve the lives of Blacks and African Americans.

The $1 million contribution is one of the largest, one-time “unrestricted” gifts received in the organization’s history. The gift will support the sustainability of TMCF by enabling the organization to continue pursuing its mission to provide scholarships, develop leadership skills, offer professional development opportunities, and other critically important support services for the nearly 300,000 diverse students TMCF represents at the nation’s publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). TMCF is actively developing our next generation of entrepreneurs, teachers, and leaders, while also helping to build capacity at and support the critically important research coming from our HBCUs on various issues, such as support for fragile communities and criminal justice reform.

“We are excited and grateful to Amazon for their generosity and strong support of our mission,” said Harry L. Williams, TMCF president & CEO. “This gift comes at an opportune time and is a testament to the support services that we have, and will continue to provide to our students during these difficult and challenging times.”
