The Center for Advancing Opportunity (CAO) will host an Economic Mobility Research & Reform Working Group (WG) meeting in Washington, DC at the Gallup Building on November 8-9, 2018. It is an invitation-only event to provide participants from the first CAO Summit held in Washington on February 5-6, 2018, and others, an opportunity to do a deeper dive into issues discussed in our Report and beyond. Topics for consideration include moving people from poverty to prosperity, employment, and the role of nonprofit, faith-based, and business organizations play in economic mobility, to name a few.
A highlight will be a presentation from The Center for the Study of Economic Mobility (CSEM) at Winston-Salem State University, which received a five-year $3 million dollar investment from CAO. CSEM’s mission is to show how Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) use research to remove barriers to economic and social development for people living in fragile communities in East Winston-Salem, and Forsyth County and North Carolina in particular, and the United States in general.
