Virtual Celebration
October 9, 2021

We RISE Together

Thanks so much for tuning into RISE HC2K21! We had an amazing night celebrating Black excellence and HBCU culture. With phenomenal performances by Moneybagg Yo, Justine Sky and Sevyn Streeter, a cypher competition hosted by Jazze Pha with emerging HBCU talent, a step showcase, drumline competition and more, we brought the homecoming spirit to thousands of screens across the country.

Event Overview

In response to COVID-19, Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) decided to cancel its Anniversary Award Gala, the largest fundraiser for the organization. After pivoting all of the programmatic events to a virtual format, TMCF strategized to create a memorable and fun at-home experience that will support organizational funding needs.

Since its inception, TMCF’s vision of “Changing the World, One Leader at a Time” has been accomplished by recognizing and investing in student excellence (RISE) by elevating the community through education and a steadfast investment in the nurturing of diverse talent. TMCF’s signature virtual fundraising event, #RISE HC2K20 Concert, will tell the story of how TMCF builds upon the HBCU legacy of producing leaders of impact using four (4) thematic focus areas: social and racial justice, economic empowerment in our community, health disparities, and civic engagement.

At an HBCU, homecoming is more than just a football game, tailgates, and a mental break before midterms. For many of its students, alumni, and the community-at-large homecoming is a time to come together, revisit history, celebrate the culture, and display pride. #RISE HC2K20 Concert will be a streamed and simulcast cultural immersion of the HBCU spirit highlighting its perseverance, celebrating our philanthropic impact, and demonstrating our dedication to building leaders who change the world.
