TMCF | Novartis US Foundation HBCU Alliance

Career Readiness and Mentoring program

Program Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and Novartis US Foundation are proud to present the Career Readiness and Mentoring program for talented students attending the identified 26 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or Historically Black Medical Schools (HBMSs).  The goal of the program is to guide, shape, and prepare the next generation of Black and African-American health care professionals and leaders.

Career Readiness Program Benefits

The program will include career readiness and leadership development experiences, over a three-year timespan.  The following are the program components:

  •  Online Learning and Instruction:  Access to the TMCF’s online learning management system to engage in course modules that provide instruction and key skill-building opportunities. These courses will benefit students by preparing them for leadership and the workplace.
  • Coursera: Students will have access to participate in coursework that provides additional training and development through the Coursera platform.
  • Skill Assessment:  Students will participate in skill assessments to understand their professional abilities and growth opportunities.  Additionally, students will receive coaching for deeper understanding of their assessment results, with the goal of providing students with strategies to leverage these skills for future career opportunities.
  • Mentoring:  Students will be paired with a Novartis employee mentor to foster networking and development interactions, with the opportunity to build a longstanding relationship with an industry professional.  Through the mentoring relationships, mentors will assist students with navigating their current academic studies, determining professional goals and growth opportunities, as well as sharing the mentors’ personal and professional experiences as a source of guidance to students.

In addition, students within this program will receive first consideration for any potential internship opportunities with Novartis during the summer of 2024, pending availability
