Scholarship Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are proud to offer COVID-19 emergency financial assistance to students attending one of TMCF’s 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or a Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). One hundred forty-three (143) students will be selected to receive an emergency fund up to $1,000 for 2019-2020 academic school year. Funding is intended to allow students to meet their needs and continue their education. Funding is available until the funds are exhausted or until the end of the summer term 2020, whichever comes first.

TMCF will only consider requests to cover expenses in four areas:

  • IT/Technology Needs
    • For example, laptop, Wi-Fi hotspot, access codes for e-books
  • Housing/Rent Needs
    • For example, rent, utility bills
  • Food Insecurity Needs
    • For example, groceries
  • Transportation/Travel Needs
    • For example, gas, train/bus/plane tickets, moving support

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate at a TMCF member-school during the 2019-2020 academic school year.
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

  • Complete the TMCF online application.
  • Be verified as an eligible candidate by your college/university.
  • Please upload either:
    • Receipts for expenses or invoices for items needing to be purchased in the four expense areas listed in the overview.
