Common Core State Standards Microsite

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have been a hot button topic in education since their release in 2010 by the National Governor’s Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). Since that time, 45 out of the 50 states have adopted these standards. These standards were created to increase the number of students who have post secondary success, also described as college and career readiness. As an organization, TMCF is of the mindset that whether one is opposed to the standards or in favor of them, it is prudent for our member school students, graduates and faculty in the field of education to understand the background and emergence of the standards, what they are and what they require for implementation. With that intention in mind, the goal of this microsite is to provide virtual CCSS support for:

  • HBCU college of education faculty to promote successful integration of CCSS instruction in their teacher preparation programs
  • New teachers in those states which have adopted the CCSS and require assistance with effective classroom implementation
  • Professionals in the field of education, in general, who desire a deeper understanding of the standards and their potential impact on education
