Job Description

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the black college community. TMCF member-schools include the publicly supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and several Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs).

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and personable candidate who can add value to our Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Coordinator provides administrative support to the Human Resources (HR) Department. They are responsible for fielding first level HR requests and maintaining a positive working relationship with all staff members. They must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while multi-tasking to assist with planning and organizing of various HR functions. The HR Coordinator assists with payroll processing, benefits administration, employee development initiatives, safety programs and record keeping, staffing management, training, maintaining the HR Information Systems, document compliance, and providing general administrative support to the Department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Maintain Affirmative Action Plan
  • Maintain agency ACA reporting.
  • Assists with employee benefits enrollment and termination, which includes maintaining adequate supplies of benefits information for distribution.
  • Maintain and update HR calendar.
  • Track Learning Management system trainings
  • Track Evaluations    
  • Coordinate with IT to track equipment distribution.
  • Coordinate with operation to track TMCF inventory.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • Maintain consultant and intern files.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, property-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • May assist in facilitating recruitment efforts through events and other strategies when needed.
  • May be involved in administering the Transfer/Promotion process.
  • Works with Recruiter and Onboarding to ensure all new hires are in the HRIS system correctly.
  • Assists and directs employees to appropriate people regarding FMLA and disability concerns.
  • Assists with staff development for all levels of staff within the organization through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes, abilities, and competencies which result in improved job performance as assigned.
  • Enhances staff competencies through the development of training activities as assigned.
  • Assists in planning and conducting management training and employee education on human resource related topics to include, but not limited to New Employee Orientation, as assigned.
  • May assist in planning and implementing of staff development programs such as mentoring, employee recognition and career development.
  • Is responsible for entering and monitoring data accurately into the Human Resource Information System
  • Provides input into the formulation and modification of policies and procedures.
  • Follows up promptly on recommendations, concerns and complaints.
  • Is knowledgeable and assures compliance with state and Federal employment laws, Agency policies and all applicable regulations and standards as it relates to the work performed.
  • Implements specialized employee programs.
  • Adheres to Personnel Policy Handbook and follows all Agency Procedures.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings and other activities to facilitate professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Competencies and Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource development, Human Resource Management, or related degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ HR related, or administrative experience required.
  • Knowledge of current Federal and state employment laws.
  • A work history which demonstrates a high degree of accuracy, organizational skills, judgment, tact, and the ability to work independently, meet the public and interact with all levels of staff.
  • Experience working in the field of health or human services, or non-profit preferred.
