Dr Pepper

Originally made in Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas, the drink’s unique flavor was a hit when it was first sold in 1885. Wade Morrison, the drug store owner, named it “Dr. Pepper” after Dr. Charles Pepper, a Virginia doctor who was the father of a girl Morrison was once in love with. (The period after Dr was dropped in the 1950s.). Click here to learn more.

Scholarship Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), National Black McDonald’s Operators Association, and Dr Pepper are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Twelve (12) scholars will be selected to receive a fall scholarship up to $5,000 for 2021-2022 academic school year (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior or senior at an HBCU during the 2021- 2022 academic school year.
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Open to Marketing, Sales, Operations, Entrepreneurship and other Business related majors
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a financial need.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

  • Provide a copy of the 2021-2022 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of Fall/ 2020-2021) grades and cumulative GPA.
  • Please provide an email address for one recommender to complete a character reference form. They will be required to answer three questions regarding your character reference.
  • Answer the following statement (Hirevue) (up to 1 min):
    • Established in 1972, the National Black McDonald’s Operators Association (NBMOA) remains the largest organization of established African American entrepreneurs in the world. They believe leadership requires courage, empathy, vision, strategic prowess, and significant business acumen. Tell us about a time when you exemplified these qualities to ensure a thriving environment.
    • Dr Pepper is a company of diverse brands and diverse people, and it is this diversity that helps them win in the marketplace. What do you think are the benefits and consequences of diversity in the workplace today?
    • What are your career interests regarding business management or hospitality management? How will your background contribute to your success in your chosen career field?
