The Patent Quality Education & Training Foundation brings together law firms, companies and HBCU law schools to provide law students practical experience working on teams before the Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB), one of the most active patent courts in the United States. Scholarship Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and Patent Quality Education & Training Foundation are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending one of TMCF’s member-schools that include 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) law school within the TMCF member school network. Six (6) scholars will be selected to receive a one-year scholarship up to $5,000 for the 2021-2022 academic school year (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a law student at a TMCF Law School member-school during the 2021-2022 academic school year.
    • Florida A & M College of Law
    • Howard University School of Law
    • North Carolina Central University Law School
    • Thurgood Marshall School of Law
    • UDC David A. Clark School of Law
    • Southern University Law Center
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a financial need.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

  • Provide a copy of the 2021-2022 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of Fall 2020 grades and cumulative GPA.
  • Please provide an email address for one recommender to complete a character reference form. They will be required to answer three questions regarding your character reference.
  • Answer the following essay question (Maximum of 250 words):
    • Explain how an award from Thurgood Marshall College Fund and PTF will help make a difference in meeting your goal of engaging in the full-time practice of patent law.
