Administrative Coordinator

The Center for Advancing Opportunity (CAO) is a research and education initiative created by a partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), the Charles Koch Foundation, and Koch Industries. Housed within the TMCF DC office, CAO supports faculty and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other post-secondary institutions to develop research-based solutions to the most challenging issues in education, criminal justice, and entrepreneurship. Our constituency is people living in fragile communities and they are members of all races, ethnicities, and religions.

The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for the administrative and operational success of CAO, ensuring seamless administrative support, program and research delivery, and quality control. The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for supporting projects that are aligned with the Center’s mission. Specifically, the Administrative Coordinator oversees the coordination of office work and support the executive director with the Summit, Gallup Report, outreach to HBCUs and other duties as necessary.


Executive Director of the Center for Advancing Opportunity (CAO)

Administration 75%

  • Maintain the CAO Executive Director’s Nexonia timekeeping and expense reporting, appointments, travel arrangements, and invoice processing via the Intaact online system.
  • Prepare, edit, and submit CAO correspondence, communications, and presentations.
  • Draft and edit communications to internal and external clients, blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and social media and website networks.
  • Maintain and update the CAO Website with new content.
  • Organize and maintain all CAO contacts, data, and reports.
  • Act as the point of contact for CAO internal and external clients.
  • Work with the Executive Director to prepare meeting materials, including creating content and handouts; Meetings include both general meetings with all members as well as workgroup/subcommittee meetings.
  • Maintain and regularly update CAO partnership documents (i.e., approved documents, contact lists, etc.).
  • Implement work plans, establishing timelines for activities and tracking actual progress.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested

Program Coordination 15%

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and disseminate program evaluation reports and monitor progress.
  • Support tasks associated with the CAO initiative, ensuring regular communications with project leadership and stakeholders in order to advance the work of the partnership.
  • Track changes in and the status of project deliverables and indicators relevant to the goals of the project plan to assess the impact of the CAO Initiative.
  • Develop and implement an integrated communications plan to advance CAO’s brand identity, broaden awareness of CAO and its priorities; increase the visibility of CAO across key stakeholder audiences, and ensure that plan’s objectives are met and direct staff resources as necessary.
  • Work with the TMCF events and marketing team on the CAO Summit, working group meetings, and other programs that entail their support.
  • Aid in the preparation of organizational press releases utilizing common search engines to provide information on relative topics.

Research 10%

  • Conduct research with use of public and academic databases, journals, newspapers and other resources to support the publication of op-eds, working papers, and other products associated with the production of scholarship.


  • This is a full-time position. The desired candidate will work remotely on Mondays and shall report to the office Tuesday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and adhere to the operational and attendance procedures of the TMCF Office.
  • During work hours, you are expected to devote your full effort to your work on behalf of TMCF.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job demands.
  • Travel (25%): Local travel is required during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight lodging may be expected.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Proven 2-3 years of administrative, event coordination experience in previous similar employment opportunities.
  • WordPress Website Maintenance and Social Media experience is preferred.
  • The right individual for this position will be adaptive, diligent, and capable of performing consistently at a high level.
  • An analytical mindset and precision in written and oral communications.
  • Must have a keen eye for detail, able to multitask, oversee multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must have leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to take initiative and make decisions when necessary.
  • Energetic personality and passion for CAO’s mission is essential.
  • Experienced in using G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • SPSS, Nexonia, and Intacct experience is preferred.

Employee Type: Full-time Exempt

Compensation: $55,000.00

Targeted Start Date: September 10, 2019
