The Vivian Burey Marshall Academy (VBMA) is a partnership through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and the United States Army. This four-year pilot initiative provides students from the Baltimore, MD and Vicksburg, MS communities with access to a variety of Army-sponsored Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs that engages and inspires the next generation of K-12 talent.
VBMA also taps into the talent pool from local schools and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including TMCF member-schools. Teachers are offered resources and programs, in addition to mentorship opportunities for HBCU students, to empower the student scholars in the classroom and in their STEM experiences. VBMA is a great addition to TMCF’s on-going efforts of strengthening and supporting K-12 education that will create a pipeline to HBCUs and eventually, the STEM workforce.
The Teacher Fellow Annual Summit is designed each year to provide incoming Teacher Fellows an opportunity to learn new teaching strategies that will be used to prepare our VBMA Scholars for various STEM competitions. The Teacher Fellows also learn instructional strategies that help build and strengthen the skillsets of our scholars as they learn to find solutions to real-world problems.
