Now Accepting 2022 – 2023 Grant Applications

As part of Google’s continued commitment to help the Black community and in partnership with Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the Grow with Google’s (GwG) HBCU Career Readiness Program will continue to embed HBCU student jobseeker resources into a select number Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) career services centers, with the goal of helping 100k HBCU students gain digital skills needed to find and land entry level jobs and internships and to be successful in the workplace. During the 2021-2022 school year the program we launched at 20 institutions and trained 20k Black students on professional digital skills. During the 2022-2023 school year, we will continue this effort expanding to 40 HBCUs and training a total of 100K HBCU students.

Proposal Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), in partnership with Google, is proud to announce the Grow with Google (GwG) HBCU Career Readiness Program, an initiative to build capacity within the career development centers at Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). To reach this goal, TMCF will award, a one time award* up to $20,000 in grants, to 40 HBCUs to train up 80k HBCU students on professional digital skills during the 2021-2022 school year.

Proposals should include:

  1. How Grow with Google training and funding will prepare HBCU students, and recent graduates, for the job market.
  2. How Grow with Google training and funding will support current work of Career Service Departments in enhancing students’ career trajectories to ensure they are ready for the world of work.
  3. How Grow with Google training and funding will support first-generation and low-income college students who need extra career development support.

When considering proposal ideas and implementation strategies that are aligned with the GwG HBCU Career Readiness Program, please align your topics within the following key performance indicators (KPIs). Selected HBCUs will be responsible for reporting on the success of KPIs in order to receive program funding.

With a continued goal of training 100k+ HBCU students during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years, those interested may develop a proposal around ideas which will:

  • Clearly explain how your HBCU will implement the GwG curriculum to current and new students at your HBCU.
  • Clearly outline potential success rate programs through funding in an effort to achieve proficient or advanced digital skills.
  • Clearly outline how the GwG funding and program, in conjunction with HBCU Career Center, will increase students’ feeling of being better prepared for the workforce post program.

While we have provided the above proposal ideas, this is not an exhaustive list. Please feel free to pitch any proposals that are important to incorporating jobseeker resources into your HBCU career services centers, helping the most students possible gain the digital skills they need to find and land entry level jobs and internships and to be successful in the workplace.

The following institutions are invited to submit proposals:

  • Any accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Current 2020-2021 Grow with Google HBCUs are welcome to re-apply .

*There is no guarantee of additional funding per school beyond the initial year. Funding should be used to implement the program and train staff on material to continue to use for years to come.

Proposal Outline

Each proposal should follow the following submission format:

  1. Narrative & Proposed Activities
    • Describe the rationale and proposed activities for the project. Each narrative should include:
      • The reason for the project and why it is important to the University;
      • Exact number of HBCU students your school will train in the program;
      • The impact that these activities will have on the University;
      • A description of expected outcomes and benefits of the project.
  2. Budget
    • Budgets are not to exceed $20,000. Your budget and budget narrative should include the anticipated expenses that your project will incur for the period of the grant.
  3. Evaluation & Testimonials
    • Please identify key evaluation points and measurable outcomes of your project. Please also include how you will collect and report on testimonials / impact statements from participating students.

Grant Payment Structure

Successful participating HBCUs will receive a pay out with 50% upfront and 50% at the end of the academic year. Participating GwG HBCUs will be awarded up to $10K for upfront implementation costs, then based on KPIs and delivery, up to an additional $10K will be granted on a sliding scale at the end of full program implementation and academic year.
